Bold new docuseries tackles masculinity and men’s mental health

Our brand-new YouTube docuseries is set to spark vital conversations around toxic masculinity, men’s mental health and what it really means to grow up as a man in Scotland today.

Fae The Source, presented by gamer Duncan, brings together candid conversations with experts across youth justice, violence reduction, fitness and youth voice advocacy.

Across five powerful episodes, the series dives into the pressures young men face - from societal stereotypes to internal struggles - and how these impact their mental health and identity.

Former teacher, Duncan, 25, sits down with guests from diverse fields to unpack the complexities of masculinity. More than just talk, the series aims to provide a safe, open platform where young people can explore challenging issues without judgment.

Fae The Source presenter Duncan said:

Creating a space where young people feel like they can be honest about the pressures they’re under is incredibly important. Talking about masculinity isn’t always easy, but if we don’t have these conversations, we risk leaving people to struggle in silence.

Duncan speaks to Personal Trainer Reece Williamson about masculinity in the gym.

Children and Young People’s Centre for Justice (CYCJ) Participation Advisor Iain Corbett said:

I am delighted to be part of this series. We need spaces and platforms like this for boys and men to talk about what it is to be a man in 2025; the challenges, the privileges and how we can do more, together, to support communities that are more equal, just and safe.

I hope this series allows young men to explore their own identity, challenges harmful stereotypes and contribute to a culture change that allows all men to speak more freely about their mental health.

Created with funding from the Scottish Government, Fae The Source forms part of the Young Scot mental health campaign AyeFeel, which has been delivering fact-checked support for five years and reaches over one million digital users annually.

Fae The Source is now streaming on YouTube. For anyone who finds the series thought-provoking or is seeking advice and support, further resources can be found at young.scot/ayefeel
