Young people and gaming & young people and gambling

This report outlines findings from two surveys conducted by Fast Forward and Young Scot to gain top-level insights into young people’s views on gambling and gaming. In 2023, Fast Forward and the ALLIANCE collaborated with Young Scot to deliver a survey on gambling and the connection between gaming and gambling, such as loot boxes, which was followed in 2024 by a survey on gaming, gambling and cryptocurrency.

To further develop the insights gathered from both previous surveys, Fast Forward commissioned Young Scot to deliver two short surveys: the first focused on gambling, the impact of gambling and what young people would need from support with the impacts of gambling, and the second focused on gaming, in-game gambling and what young people would need from support with the impacts of gaming.

Young Scot worked with a content creator (https://www.instagram.com/mydylsexia) to create short online content promoting each survey. The surveys were also promoted through Fast Forward’s Scottish Gambling Education Hub in colleges and universities, as well as by Young Scot through the Young Scot membership portal and social media channels, both organically and through paid marketing in collaboration with the content creator. This report sets out the results of each survey and highlights demographic trends where appropriate.
