YSAttain: Data & Insights

Ensuring the views of Scotland’s young people inform the Scottish Attainment Challenge National Programmes

Our Data and Insights team continue to support the work of the YSEquity Panel by utilising the valuable insights gathered in the ‘What I Need to Learn’ survey, gathering views from young people and maintaining a role on the Attainment Scotland Fund Evaluation Advisory Panel and the Research Advisory Group.

The team also engage with the Scottish Government on exploring and measuring the impact of the voice of children and young people, aligned to the Scottish Government evaluation of the wider YSAttain programme.

What I Need to Learn Survey

The ‘What I Need to Learn’ survey ran from 2 October 2023 to 8 January 2024 receiving 1,035 complete responses from 11 to 25-year-olds from all 32 local authorities.

The survey explored what ‘ready to learn’ means to young people. It examined how the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing Cost Crisis have affected their readiness to learn and identified key barriers they face. Young people also shared their levels of engagement with school and how much they enjoy attending. Demographic questions helped us analyse responses across different groups and better understand diverse experiences.
