Scotland’s Young Heroes Celebrated at Young Scot Awards

Fourteen young Scots have been announced as the winners of the prestigious Steven Brown and Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards 2018 for their outstanding contributions to society, and their own communities.

This year’s Young Scot Awards come at the end of the Year of Young People 2018 and is a celebration of their incredible achievements. The Awards, now in their thirteenth year, showcased the incredible stories of inspiring young people across 14 categories.

The overall winner of the Young Scot 2018 award was Jordan Daly, who has campaigned over the last three years in support of the Time for Inclusive Education campaign. Other award winners included top vlogger Jamie Genevieve, and the Young Commonwealth and European Championship medallists.

This year’s winners are:

• Mukadass Javaid, winner of the Equality & Diversity award sponsored by Standard Life Aberdeen

• Alyssa Faulkner, winner of the Health & Wellbeing award sponsored by Active Scotland Division

• Joseph Cox, winner of the Community award sponsored by Scottish Government

• Eilidh Earle-Mitchell, winner of the Enterprise award sponsored by HSBC Scotland

• Rhys Greig, winner of the Excellence in Education award sponsored by St Andrews University

• Paul Johnson, winner of the Young Hero award sponsored by Co-op

• Jordan Daly, winner of the Enhancing Education award sponsored by Skills Development Scotland

• Young Commonwealth and European Championship medallists, winners of the Sport award sponsored by Sport Scotland

• Andrew Wilson, winner of the Environment award sponsored by QMS

• Emma Robinson, winner of the Volunteering award sponsored by the #iwill campaign

• Jamie Genevieve, winner of the Entertainment award sponsored by Scottish Citylink

• Rachel Tidmore, winner of the Year of Young People Champion of the Year award sponsored by Steven Brown Art

• Mason Kidd, winner of the Unsung Hero award sponsored by Solace Scotland

The nearly 3,000 guests who attended the Awards on Friday night were entertained by performances from singer Max George, and a rendition of the Greatest Showman from students of the GAMTA Performing Arts School.

The Awards were hosted by comedian and Love Island funny man Iain Stirling, with famous faces joining the young people on the red carpet to celebrate Scotland’s amazing young heroes in style – with Love Island’s Laura Anderson, actor Christy O’Donnell and YouTube sensation Dodie, and many more in attendance.

The First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, also joined the evening of celebration to present Jordan Daly with the Young Scot of the Year award.

“The Young Scot Awards celebrate some of Scotland’s most inspiring young people, and these Awards have been a fantastic way to start to draw the Year of Young People to a close.”
