Money and Me - how young people can better understand their finances
Co-designed by young people and developed in collaboration with College Development Network and Fast Forward, Young Scot is launching a new “Money and Me” digital information resource for young people. The project is part of a wider UK Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) Youth Checkpoints programme.
The MAPS Youth Checkpoints programme supports organisations to help young people aged 16-25 to gain a better understanding of their finances, provide information in relation to debt and borrowing, and support longer-term goals of creating a savings buffer. The programme forms part of MaPS financial wellbeing strategy that identifies five “agendas for change” including meaningful financial foundations and education for young people, creating a nation of savers, and a reduction on reliance on credit.
Co-designed by young people, information will be shared across all Young Scot social and digital platform over the coming months. Young Scot, College Development Network and Fast Forward will also be delivering interactive webinar opportunities for young people with financial experts and partners including Citizens Advice Scotland and Scottish Young Money Blogger Iona Bain.
MaPS: “It has been fantastic to work with Young Scot, College Development Network and Fast Forward on this project which has involved young adults helping to design solutions to access money support through the services they already use. In these worrying times it’s really important that they are able to easily access support and information about managing money at key points in their life and being able to navigate their way around the benefits system.”
“Fast Forward has been delighted to work in partnership with Young Scot and the College Development Network to develop this invaluable resource, created by, and for, Scotland’s young people to support them to make informed choices regarding their finances.” - Allie Cherry-Byrnes, CEO, Fast Forward
"At Young Scot we know that young people want to access quality assured information on how to manage their finances. That's why we're delighted to share information across Young Scot social media channels that is easy to access, understand and designed by young people themselves. We are also delighted that over the coming months we will be working collaboratively with experts in the field of money and finance to deliver interactive webinars and Q&As to support young people during this time." - Louise Macdonald, Chief Executive of Young Scot
