Scottish Youth Parliament trustee joins Young Scot Board

Glasgow University student Ellie Craig has joined our Young Scot board as one of five young people supporting us to deliver our goals. Ellie has been the Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) for Glasgow Cathcart since 2019 and joins the board following the launch of our new Vision Makers strategy. 

Committing to provide universal services for young people and reassurance in times of challenge, our bold new strategy aims to help build confidence, resilience, and support young people to have fun. 

The 18-year-old politics and sociology student brings a wealth of experience to the board. She joins fellow young person, Dundee University student Amy Simmons, who has recently been promoted to vice chair, demonstrating Young Scot’s aim of young people making up at least 25% of board members. 

Ellie was elected as the Trustee of the Scottish Youth Parliament earlier this year where she is responsible for overseeing the organisation’s projects, in particular the Scottish Youth Parliament’s work on UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.  

Over the past few years Ellie has also focused on education projects such as campaigning for young people to have a stronger voice in conversations around exams. She also represents the Scottish Youth Parliament on different Scottish Government projects such as the gender equality in education and learning taskforce and the participatory budgeting group.  

Following her first Young Scot Board meeting Ellie said: 

“I am really excited to have joined the Young Scot Board as the representative for the Scottish Youth Parliament. Young Scot does so much important work for Scotland’s young people and having partnered with SYP on lots of different projects, I can’t wait to see where this partnership goes next.”
