Celtic collaboration as Young Scot and spunout partner to champion Scottish Gaelic and Irish
Young Scot has teamed up with Ireland’s youth information platform spunout to launch a new cross-cultural campaign celebrating the differences and similarities between Scottish Gaelic and Irish language communities.
Supported by Bòrd na Gàidhlig, the digital campaign features engaging content to inspire more young people to feel positively about the Scottish Gaelic and Irish languages and culture. Emphasising shared linguistic heritage, the fun social content sparks dialogue and mutual appreciation between young people in Scotland and Ireland.
To reflect the real experiences and voices of young people, youth creators produced authentic social media content to:
Foster an engaging online presence that connects communities across Ireland and Scotland
Create meaningful opportunities for young people to use Scottish Gaelic and Irish together
Encourage participation through interactive elements such as social media challenges and digital engagement initiatives
With a strong Instagram and TikTok audience, this collaboration highlights the power of youth-led digital storytelling to connect, inform and inspire at scale.
Young Scot CEO John Loughton said:
Through digital storytelling and shared creative experiences, this partnership shows how language can unite young people across borders. By celebrating the deep connections between Scottish Gaelic and Irish, we’re creating space for young people to feel proud of their heritage, connect with one another and see their languages as evolving and relevant to their lives today.
Together, spunout and Young Scot are not only celebrating the languages, we are amplifying youth voices and helping young people on both sides of the Irish Sea to thrive. We’re grateful to Bòrd na Gàidhlig for supporting this campaign and our continued work to help young people develop their Scottish Gaelic language skills.
