Rannsachadh ùr air ciamar a tha daoine òga airson a dhol an sàs le Gàidhlig air-loidhne/ New research on how young people want to engage online with Scottish Gaelic
Tha sinn air a bhith ann an com-pàirteachas le Bòrd na Gàidhlig bho 2018 gus mheudachadh cleachdadh na Gàidhlig agus ionnsachadh am measg dhaoine òga, agus deagh ìomhaigh den chànan adhartachadh.
Mar phàirt den obair seo, tha sinn air aireamh de sgrùdaidhean a ruith air daoine òga a’ faighneachd dhaibh ciamar a tha iad airson a dhol an sàs le Ghàidhlig air-loidhne, agus dè an t-susbaint mheadhanan sòisealta a bu toil leotha sinne a chruthachadh sa Ghàidhlig dhaibh.
Tha sinn an dòchas gun cuidich toraidhean an t-suirbhidh seo a h-uile duine a tha ag obair san roinn gus an susbaint Gàidhlig air-loidhne aca airson dhaoine òga a leasachadh.
Bha sgrùdadh na bliadhna-sa a’ ruith eadar Samhain 2022 agus Gearran 2023 agus ghabh faisg air 1,000 neach òg pàirt ann.
Seo cuid de na prìomh thoraidhean:
Thuirt còrr is dàrna leth den daoine òga aig nach robh Gàidhlig gu robh ùidh aca ann a bhith ag ionnsachadh.
Thuirt trì chairteal de dhaoine òga gur e Duolingo an goireas air-loidhne as fheàrr leotha airson Gàidhlig ionnsachadh.
Bha nas motha na 80% de dhaoine òga airson barrachd susbaint Gàidhlig fhaicinn air-loidhne.
Tha daoine òga airson barrachd bhideothan goirid fhaicinn leithid TikTok agus Instagram Reels
Tha daoine òga airson barrachd susbaint fhaicinn air Instagram, TikTok agus YouTube.
Cleachdaidh sinn an rannsachadh seo gus dèanamh cinnteach gu bheil sinn a’ cruthachadh an t-seòrsa de shusbaint tharraingeach Ghàidhlig a tha daoine òga ag iarraidh fhaighinn – a rèir a bheil iad ag ionnsachadh a’ chànain neo a bheil iad fileanta.
Tha sinn cuideachd a’ roinn nan toraidhean gu poblach gus an urrainn do dhaoine eile san roinn an susbaint agus am fiosrachadh Gàidhlig aca a leasachadh cuideachd.

We have been partnering with Bòrd na Gàidhlig since 2018 to increase the use of Scottish Gaelic (Gaelic) and learning amongst young people, and to promote a positive image of the language.
As part of this work, we’ve run a number of surveys of young people asking them about how they want to engage with Gaelic online, and what social media content they’d like us to create in Gaelic for them.
We hope the results of this survey will help eveyrone working in the sector to improve and develop their online Gaelic offering for young people.
This year’s survey ran between November 2022 and February 2023 and nearly 1,000 young people took part.
Some of the key findings include:
More than half of the young people who could not speak Gaelic said they were interested in learning.
Three quarters of young people said Duolingo is the most popular online resource to learn Gaelic.
Over 80% of young people wanted to see to see more Gaelic content online.
Young people want to see more short form videos such as TikTok and Instagram Reels
Young people want to see more content on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
We will use this research to ensure we’re creating the type of engaging Gaelic content that young people want to receive – tailored to whether they’re learning the language or are fluent speakers.
We are also sharing the results publicly so that others in the sector can shape their Gaelic content and information too.
